Find something to do
outside this weekend
Openair brings together small-group outdoor sessions, guided morning walks, and hands-on creative days along the Ping River. No large crowds, no long commutes. Just good activities, nearby.
Our story
A noticeboard for outdoor life in Chiang Mai
Openair started in the Wat Ket neighbourhood in early 2024, when a handful of local coaches and guides started posting flyers on a literal noticeboard at the riverside path. People kept asking for a single place to find everything. That became this.
Today we coordinate three types of regular sessions — morning movement groups, guided walks, and photography days — all within easy reach of central Chiang Mai. Groups stay small by design: six to ten people per session. Coaches and guides are local, know the routes, and run at a relaxed pace that suits newcomers.
Whether you have lived here for years or arrived last week, there is usually something on the calendar that fits. Send us a message and we will suggest the right session for where you are.

A few things that tend to matter once you have been to a session or two.
Consistent weekly schedule
Sessions run on a fixed weekly schedule posted on the site. You can plan ahead, bring a friend, or just show up.
Groups of 6–10 people
Keeping numbers low means guides can spend real time with each participant, and the pace suits the group rather than a fixed script.
Within 10 min of the old city
All sessions start on Charoen Rat Road or at meeting points reachable on foot or by a short songthaew ride from the moat.
Morning light
The riverbank at 7 am looks different from a map
The Ping River section near Wat Ket stays quiet until mid-morning. Our walking guides know which coffee carts open at 6:30, where the community garden holds its Saturday market, and the small temple lanes most visitors miss. The tour is not a fixed script — guides adjust the route to the group and to what's actually happening that morning.

Hands-on learning
A full day to actually understand your camera
The photography day starts outdoors at 8 am with a short introduction to how light and composition work together. The practice walk covers two or three distinct spots — a shaded lane, an open courtyard, and usually the river at midday. After lunch the group reconvenes indoors for a two-hour editing session on phones or laptops. You leave with a cheat sheet and, often, a few photos you actually like.

Our approach
How we think about outdoor activities
Community first, commerce second
The original noticeboard idea still shapes how we operate. Coaches set their own pace; guides choose routes they care about. Openair handles the scheduling and the booking so they can focus on running a good session.
Calm over performance
None of our sessions are structured as competitions or as ways to hit targets. A movement session is a comfortable way to spend a morning outdoors. A walk is a walk. We do not attach outcomes to recreation.
Transparent about what's included
Every listing states the price in baht, the group size, the meeting point, and exactly what is provided — mats, a route map, a coffee stop, or a cheat sheet, depending on the session. Nothing hidden after you book.

What participants say
Recent feedback
"I had done the morning session four times before I realised I kept going back because of the group, not just the session itself. The coach pays attention to how people are feeling on a given morning. That's rare."
Siriporn R.
Chiang Mai · 14 May 2026
"The riverbank walk was the best three hours I spent in Chiang Mai, and I live here. The guide stopped at the garden market and bought us sticky rice from someone he clearly knew. It felt nothing like a tour."
Marcus K.
Wat Ket resident · 22 May 2026
"I signed up for the photography day not expecting much — I just wanted to understand my phone camera. The editing session in the afternoon was genuinely helpful and the cheat sheet is still stuck to my wall."

Common questions
Things people ask before booking
Do I need any experience for the movement session?
No particular experience is needed. The session is designed around accessible bodyweight and mobility movements and runs at a pace set by the group. People of different ages and activity backgrounds attend regularly.
What camera do I need for the photography day?
Any camera or phone works fine. The day covers principles that apply across devices — how light direction affects a shot, how to frame a subject, when to move closer. The editing session uses free mobile apps and runs on both iOS and Android.
How far in advance should I book?
For morning movement sessions a day or two is usually enough. Walking tours and photography days tend to fill up earlier — three to five days ahead is a reasonable buffer if you have a specific date in mind. Send us a message and we will let you know availability.
What happens if a session is cancelled due to weather?
Outdoor sessions in Chiang Mai are occasionally affected by heavy rain during the wet season (roughly July–October). If a session is cancelled by us, we move you to the next available date or arrange a full refund — your choice. We always contact participants directly at least 2 hours before the start time.
Are sessions run in English?
Yes, all sessions are conducted in English. Our guides and coaches are comfortable working with both local and international participants.
